What overtrading is and why it happens

This is a situation where a trader opens too many trades, most often under the influence of emotions: boredom, a desire to win back, or simply out of excitement. As a result, unnecessary risks and transactions appear that do not correspond to the trading plan.

How to stop overtrading

  1. Narrow your focus.
It’s better to focus on a limited number of assets that actually fit your trading strategy. This approach helps to avoid unnecessary activity in inappropriate market conditions.
  2. Evaluate the quality of recent transactions.
Look at your last five entries. If a significant portion of them ended in losses, this may be a signal to reduce activity until the quality of trading improves.
  3. Keep a trade journal
Regular journaling will help you analyze your actions and identify excess activity. This is an excellent tool for controlling discipline and reducing the number of unreasonable transactions.
  4. Clearly state the conditions for entry.
Study how historical market leaders acted and identify the exact attributes that will guide your decisions. Only enter when the paper actually meets these parameters.
