More transparency in cryptocurrencies

From 2026, data exchange rules in OECD and EU countries will change significantly with the introduction of the Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF) and the updated CRS standard. The main goal, of course, is complete financial transparency.
What changes under CARF and the updated CRS
What information will be exchanged automatically
Automatic exchange: Tax authorities will receive data on your crypto asset transactions, balances and cross-border transfers automatically. It becomes technically impossible to hide assets abroad.
Limits: There are virtually no “minimum thresholds” for crypto assets. While the classic CRS has limits for certain types of accounts (for example, $50,000), CARF requires reporting of any significant activity.
How to prepare transaction records
– Documentation: Maintain a history of all transactions and proof of source of funds (SoF).
– Residence: Check the relevance of your address and tax number in the profiles of payment systems – this is where the reporting will go.
– Declaration: Data from services will be automatically compared with your declarations. Any discrepancy will be a trigger for verification.
Risks for digital nomads
Some things can be clarified after the first cases, but it is important that for digital nomads the risks of account closure may increase. It may be easier and cheaper for banks to refuse service to employees with confusing data from different countries than to figure out whose “Non-Resident” you are.
